{"id":1600,"date":"2013-05-01T17:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T17:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.harbug.org.uk\/?p=1600"},"modified":"2020-04-02T18:50:46","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T18:50:46","slug":"wallingford-cycle-rides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.harbug.org.uk\/?p=1600","title":{"rendered":"Wallingford Cycle Rides"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1606\" style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/harbug.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dummy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1606\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1606 \" alt=\"Enjoying the Chiltern Beechwoods near Woodcote\" src=\"http:\/\/harbug.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dummy.jpg\" width=\"181\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1606\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Enjoying the Chiltern Beechwoods near Woodcote<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wallingford is the largest town in Oxfordshire with as yet\u00a0little in the way of\u00a0organised cycling activity, despite having some wonderful cycling country on the doorstep.\u00a0 To address this \u2018gap\u2019, CTC Oxfordshire is organising a series of 5 leisure\u00a0rides from Wallingford over the summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The rides are <b>open to all <\/b>and mostly in the popular format of 25 to 40 miles on a Sunday afternoon with a stop for tea and cake about half-way. \u00a0The rides will follow the quieter country lanes through the Vale and on occasion up into the Chilterns.\u00a0 We\u2019ll keep to a <b>sociable pace<\/b>, not a sporty one, about 11-13 mph on the road.\u00a0 The rides will be led by experienced leaders, and follow CTC guidelines to be safe and enjoyable for everyone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Rides will start from <b>Wallingford Market Place<\/b>, outside the Town Information Centre, at 1:30pm on the first Sunday of each month, starting\u00a0this Sunday 5 May. \u00a0(The nearby Goldsmiths Lane car park\u00a0is currently free on Sundays.)\u00a0\u00a0Rides will normally arrive back at 4:30 to 5pm. \u00a0The exception will be 7 July, which will be a &#8216;picnic ride&#8217; starting at 9:30am to coincide with the Benson Veteran Cycle Club Rally, and returning mid-afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to join us on Sunday, we&#8217;ll be heading westwards to the Wittenhams, Didcot and the Hagbournes with tea stop at Blewbury, a flattish ride of about 25 miles.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like further information or to register your interest, please contact Robin Tucker at <strong><a href=\"mailto:robin.tucker1@yahoo.co.uk\">robin.tucker1@yahoo.co.uk<\/a><\/strong> , on 07901 622622, Steve Swanton at <strong><a href=\"mailto:steveswanton@easynet.co.uk\">steveswanton@easynet.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>\u00a001235 764257 \u00a0or see: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctcwantage.org.uk\/wallingfordrides\"><b>www.ctcwantage.org.uk\/wallingfordrides<\/b><\/a><b>.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>So if you live in or near Wallingford and would like to meet up with and ride with other local cyclists,\u00a0and would be interested in forming a new\u00a0cycling group, please get in touch with us or come along to one of the taster rides.\u00a0 What happens next will depend on the level of interest\u00a0 generated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CTC Oxfordshire is organising a series of 5 leisure rides from Wallingford over the summer.
