Science Vale Cycle Routes Focus Group

Last week HarBUG attended a series of focus groups meetings, discussing proposed cycle routes with the County Council and their contractors Atkins. There is £4.5 million to spend on Science Vale cycle routes over the next three years, from April 15. The routes that will get funding are those from the towns to the business parks.

You can view the routes that Atkins have identified here: Science Vale Cycle Route Options

HarBUGs proposed response to the focus groups can be viewed here: HarBUG Response to Science Vale Cycle Route Focus Group

If you have any comments on our response please reply or email me: chairman@harbug.org.uk We need to put our response in by this Thursday, 5th March, so not much time.

Please note this £4.5 million is in addition to the funding of the Winnaway and the £1 million from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The LSTF funding is being used for repairs to the Sustrans route 544 and route 5 from Abingdon to Didcot as well as other projects in the Science Vale.

The latest on the Winnaway is that there are still land ownership issues which are delaying the project. OCC hope to start work in the summer. The LSTF funding runs from April 15 to March 16, so has to be spent in the next 12 months.

It looks like the comment on option 4 should read “many cyclists currently use option 4A” and not “many cyclists currently use option 1A”.

I would suggest that, under option 1, rather than simply assert that a study has been done, you consider attaching the study.
