The County Council have a consultation for a proposed cycle path along Wantage Road from Slade Road to the Foxhall Road Roundabout. Don’t be fooled by the words consultation or proposed, it has already been passed and will be built within the next six months – ‘Big sigh’. It is unlikely to improve cycling for commuters and we have seen from the recent post, when a cycle path is built motorists expect you to use it even if it is useless.
The whole of the cycle provision along Wantage Road makes a good case study of how good intentions (to provide cycle infrastructure) can turn bad due to little or no overall planning and out of date thinking. There is a lot of wasted money.
