Icknield Way West (Puncture Alley) – Update

The contractors finished their remedial work last Wednesday, they then monitored cyclists on Thursday and Friday to see if there were any further puncture incidents.

The current situation is that the surface is being left and monitored for further reports of punctures. If there are still problems with punctures happening, please let the County Council know and also post them on the HarBUG forum.

Are cyclists using the path now? The problems with the surface has dented people’s confidence in the path but please let HarBUG know if you are still walking your cycle down the path instead of riding.

We need to get back to the Council in about a month to let them know how things are going, but sooner if the situation is still not acceptable.

I had to fix a puncture this morning. It was a piece of sharp flint.

I have only used the ‘fixed’ track for 6 trips since the work to improve it.

Would like to add that I have also been getting punctures on that stretch since the fix.

      Will start walking it again.

I am going to try and notify the organisers of Uptonogood, an mtb event this summer, that will mean potentially several hundred riders using this stretch. With probable ensuing puncture mayhem!. I think now that flint splinters have been liberally distributed across and beside the path, this stretch will remain a problem for riders for many months if not years.

I must be one of the lucky ones, I have been cycling across puncture alley since the fix and have only had one puncture, I think it may be a bit of a lottery and will be for a number of months to come!

I spoke too soon…not sure if it’s the wet weather but have had two punctures in two days immediately after crossing puncture alley, anyone else?!
