The reason I started cycling to work this past year (even throughout winter) was thanks to the Cycle to Work day . I use a hybrid with road tyres and manage (Wantage 544).
As long as the pace is slow at the rough bits the Cycle to Work event shouldn’t be a problem. Rather than cancelling it could it be postponed til after the roadworks?

Hello I agree with the last comment. I use a hybrid with winter tyres from Wantage. With the increase in popularity of cycling generally I think it would be a shame to cancel the event. Perhaps postpone would be better.
Now I’m more confident (e.g. got it down to a respectable time!) I would be very happy to perhaps lead a group of new women cyclists from Wantage – may be a nice thing to suggest and provide encouragement and support to a group who may not have considered it before? -

Hi,
I have been using route 544 both from Didcot and from Wantage regularly for the last 4 years, and I have never seen them before in a worst state. Extreme caution is needed even under ideal weather and there are lots of points where an (in) experienced rider can come a cropper and/or wreck his bike/tyres.

I have been cycling from Grove along the 544 for 2.5 years and I agree with Dimitris about the state. Serious potholes and ruts in many places – I nearly gave up a couple of months ago after cycling in all weathers and seasons until now. But if it is dry and light it may not put off a beginner who is happy to take it slowly.
P.S. If you want a cyclist on Grove Parish Council, please vote for me!
