Since the fixing of flint alley, I have for the first time in 16 years felt able to regularly cycle in to work along route 544 in my ordinary clothes.

However this morning a cyclist on a mountain bike charged past me through a big puddle and soaked me in muddy water from the knee down.

This is the kind of rude and thoughtless behaviour I’ve previously only encountered from car drivers, isolated in their metal bubble. I was pretty shocked to receive this treatment from a cyclist, and absolutely enraged.

At least, as a cyclist, they were able to hear my full list of expletives and they are in no doubt as to how I feel about this incident.

It’s really nice to hear that you’ve been able to start commuting regularly by bike, but saddening that you’ve encountered such thoughtless behaviour from another cyclist. It’s a shame that, as with cars, a minority of bad and inconsiderate individuals tarnish the good behaviour of the majority. I hope this doesn’t put you off cycling. Particularly this week the weather has been gorgeous and I for one have very much preferred being out in the sunshine rather than sitting on the A34.

Don’t worry. I wasn’t totally clear. I only just started commuting in ordinary clothes. I’ve been commuting dressed up for cycling for the last 16+ years, so I’m not likely to stop now. I pre-date route 544, never mind a half decent surface on it.

I see, sorry for the misunderstanding. That sounds especially annoying then having just switched to commuting in work clothes!
