I wonder if others have also noticed on the Wantage route, East of Newbury Road (which goes down to East Hendred) when you turn onto Ickneild Way, there are some new and deepening potholes on the dirt track created by a car. The tire marks show that a vehicle that look like a passenger car was driven along that path a few hundred metres up to a gate to a farmland, where the path is wide enough for it to turn back. A couple of times I saw a man there in a white minivan, apparently ‘walking’ his dog. Apart from damaging the path he was also completely blocking the full width of the path making me to go off to the soft verge to bypass him.

I have noticed this also, just the ruts not the vehicle, this section has become very hazardous especially when it’s wet or if there has been a frost, might be worth e-mailing the council about to see if they can do anything with it?!

He regularly walks his dogs in this way because he has a bad back.

This section of Icknield way still seems to be byway. So I believe you can legally take any vehicle you like down that part.

I have found if I ring my bell, he always moves the van as much to one side as possible, though on much of the track that still doesn’t leave much room to pass.
