      Hi all

I’m relatively new to Harwell, having started in May… cycling to RAL from Wallingford a couple of times a week at present.

Looking to join (or arrange) some group rides up on the Ridgeway, so suitable for XC / gravel bikes.

Are there any group rides taking place at present? Ideally after work? If not, is anyone interested! I’d probably suggest a weekly hour or so’s ride starting around 5pm?

      Cheers,
      Mike

      Hiya Mike,

I’m not aware of any group rides as of right now. I’m a mostly XC mountain biker who dabbles in pretty much anything on two wheels and would definitely be up for some regular rides. Mon/Weds/Fri are usually possible for me.

I’ve lived in the area for a few years so have a reasonable knowledge of trails.

      Cheers,
      -Pip

      Hi Mike,

The bike shop in Wantage, Ridgeway Cycles, have a weekly MTB ride at 1830 from the shop.

Didcot Phoenix CC have also been dabbling in midweek gravel rides recently. Check their socials for details.

      Happy trails!

Hi all, I would be interested in regular XC rides starting from site. I’ve done a couple of local club rides that were great but something I can do straight after work sounds ideal!

Hi Mike, I regularly commute MTB/gravel along the Ridgeway and local trails from Reading to Harwell and know a lot of excellent trails in the area, including those towards Wallingford. Happy to ride back with you if you wanted someone to show you some of the better options.
      Cheers

Hi Martin, I cycled in today, you aren’t available this afternoon are you?

Otherwise I’m on leave next week but looking at replies above I might suggest a ride for the week after (22/8-)

Apologies Mike, I didn’t see your response yesterday (this website/forum is a bit clunky). I didn’t ride in to work yesterday anyway. Drop me a PM when you are back from holiday and we’ll sort something out.
        Cheers

Hi Martin, you’re not wrong about the site! Can’t figure out how to PM so email me mike.graham (at) STFC.ac.uk

Otherwise maybe see you on Wednesday at 17.30 by the Pavilion. Thanks

Hey everyone, great to have such enthusiastic and fast responses! Looks like there’s appetite to arrange a post-work ride!

I’m on leave next week but how about starting on Wednesday 24th August? Does meeting at 5pm work, or a little later? I am happy to plan the first route, will aim for around 15-20km or 1-1.5 hr! If all goes well, we can have one a week til the weather gets bad.

      Cheers,
      Mike

5pm is a bit early and Wednesdays aren’t great, but don’t let that change something that’s best for you; I’ll join if I can. Bitter experience of mud and jungle has taught me a few places to avoid at particular times of year.

How about 1730 on 24/08/22? It would give most of us a chance to get changed etc.

Ok, I hope to be there.

First ride out last Wednesday was a great success with 9 riders! Thanks to all who joined!

Next ride this evening, meeting at the Pavilion bike repair station at 1730.

Hoping to make this a weekly ride until either the weather turns or the nights draw in – I probably won’t be posting on here each week so please either turn up or email me (mike.graham (at) stfc.ac.uk) to be added to the WhatsApp group.

      Cheers,
      Mike

      Hi all!!

Resuming weekly Harwell mountain bike rides from the Pavilion bike repair station, starting Wednesday 5th April meeting at 5pm for a 5.15pm start.

I’ll plan the route this time and hope to nominate a different person each week. Expect 20km or around 1h30-2h

As per last year, please email me to be added to the WhatsApp group (mike.graham (at) stfc.ac.uk)

Hope to see many of you there!

      Cheers,
      Mike
