I agree that the road is in a terrible state and is particularly hazardous to cyclists. I (and others) reported it on Fix My Street a couple of years (or more) ago and nothing was done. I will try again and hope for the best. Ideally, the whole road needs resurfacing, but I doubt that will happen. Generally, these reinstatements by utility companies are of poor quality and often deteriorate quickly. They need to be held to a higher standard.

Fully agree with flatbadger. I was that cyclist. There was an surprising amount of blood from a face cut but fortunately I fell towards the verge and missed a large tree. They only fixed a short length and I did have a go at them later about another section about 50m down the road – which after about a couple of years they did fix. AS you both say, the whole trench needs doing and it seems daft to do it a few m at a time. Austerity, I guess. I’ll add my voice to the tumult. Is this a recognised cycle route, in addition to be being a road we all use?

Hello,
Thanks SteveJ and Justin for your comments. One of my reports about the trench was closed today as a duplicate, even though location different. There are ruts deep enough to trap a bike wheel. Road isn’t part of national cycle network, however I pointed out in my report that it is a major link for cyclists from north Wantage and Grove to the Icknield Greenway and Sustrans 544

Update: Some potholes at the edge of the trench have been circled, near the junction with Tirrold Way. I received an update on Fix My Street that the defect is marked for repair. However defects on other parts of the trench have not been marked or investigated as far as I can tell. Looks like each defect will have to be individually reported.

I have raised this by email with Jenny Hannaby and Jane Hannah who are the relevant County Councillors to see if they can get it solved as a whole, and I will raise with them in person if they are at Grove Parish Council’s meeting this evening (7.30pm at Old Mill Hall for your information).
